Abstract:
The engineering drawing is a universal method of conveying design intent. Ever since the first 3D modelling software, there has been a promise of skipping the drawing step. Model based definition is a rising technology which enables a faster development cycle as well as manufacturing and dimensional control. It is a component of industry 4.0 and presents a better way of data transfer. MBD offers an automated transfer of information created in the design phase to later processes, such as manufacturing and inspection. The article presents the MBD technology and the steps in its use. An example of using MBD on a hydraulic cylinder is also presented.
