Advanced technologies such as 3D scanning are often used in quality control. However, these advanced techniques have certain limitations: for example, if an object has holes or if there is hidden damage inside, these methods cannot detect them. Such information is crucial for predicting the durability of a material and detecting hidden defects (cracks, presence of inclusions, material inhomogeneity). Therefore, our research focuses on comparing three different techniques for capturing three-dimensional data of an industrial aluminum product: 3D structured light scanning, 3D laser light scanning and scanning using computed tomography (CT). The aim was to compare individual techniques in terms of manufacturing accuracy compared to a CAD model and in terms of the amount and quality of information that each technique provides. In doing so, we considered whether the technique allows for the analysis of external geometric properties of materials and other important characteristics.
