Abstract:
Current energy policies focus on transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, whose main drawback is their intermittency. To address this challenge, seasonal thermal storage systems are being developed, enabling the storage and use of heat over extended periods, typically several months or even an entire season. These storage systems contribute to more efficient energy use for heating and cooling. The article presents various types of seasonal thermal storage systems, including latent, sensible, and thermo-chemical storage. Additionally, we provide an overview of the practical application of adsorption heat storage for building heating and cooling, as well as other household applications.
